Marvel Legends Planet Hulk Review

Marvel Legends Planet Hulk

Part of why I love this figure so much is it comes from one of the coolest storylines in comics. Hulk is exiled to a planet of warrior tribes by a conspiracy of Earth heroes and S.H.I.E.L.D. On the planet, Hulk takes part in gladiator style battles and of course comes out on top. He also falls in love with Caiera and chooses her as his queen. But she dies after the shuttle that transported Hulk to Sakaar explodes. Hulk decides to return to Earth and declare justice on those who did this to him.

The production of this Hulk is accurate to this story. He has one of the most interesting faces I’ve seen, with his jaw and forehead jutting out. He almost looks like a mutant from The Planet of the Apes, which is the whole point of this chapter of the Hulk. He is a primal version of the angry green man, and his weapons are made to look like they were made out of stone.

The artwork on the box is a huge improvement on the former Toy Biz packaging, which was quite disappointing, and all of the Legends in the set are featured. It is a brilliant and colorful presentation that exemplifies why Marvel is so cool.

Maybe the most distinctive feature is the accessories that come with the figure, including his shield, helmet and armor. This Hulk is clearly made to fight. The articulation perfectly accompanies the character, as nearly every important joint has movement. His head and neck rotate. His shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, knees, thighs, ankles and feet all click into various poses. The design is sturdy so you can enjoy maneuvering this toy.

The color of green they used is awesome. I’ve noticed over the years that the color on a Hulk can make or break the experience. The artists have nailed the tone you expect to see and so it’s realistic to the comic and spot on. Likewise the detail and definition capture every grimace, bulging vein and muscle rip.

One awesome detail is the emblem of the planet he’s been sent to that is carved onto his shield. This helps reaffirm the obscure location he’s located in. It’s a very important detail. And that’s what I love most about this figure is its unique sense of artistic style. This Hulk is a radical departure as the story dictates he should be. This is a must have for all Hulk and Marvel enthusiasts.
